Optimize/ Tune WordPress for Better Performance

Plugins to use:

Enable the inbuilt wordpress cache using define(ENABLE_CACHE, true)

Disable useless plugins and delete inactive ones.

Use optimized wordpress theme with less PHP calls and images.

Turn off pingbacks and trackbacks.

Move the static files like images, css and js to subdomain.

Turn of Post Revisions by adding define(‘WP_POST_REVISIONS’, false);

Delete Revisions using DELETE FROM wp_posts WHERE post_type = “revision”;

Make use of Firefox’s YSlow and Firebug plugins.

Put all the JS files in footer and CSS in header.

If possible use external commenting systems like Facebook, Disqus, IntenseDebate etc.

Optimize mysql database using phpmyadmin  or plugins after taking a backup.

Use CSS Sprites to combines multiples images, hence reducing HTTP requests for faster speeds.
